Basil - Exploration Geologist

My name is Basil, I am an Exploration Geologist working with Saudi Aramco for the past 6 years, I am from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. I studied my bachelor at the University of Edinburgh and then I went and did a masters in Structural Geology at the Royal Holloway College University of London. I work in new venture exploration in the red sea, one of the last frontier areas around the world, primarily I am a Geophysical Interpreter, however I am heavily involved in well operations and planning. Working on the red sea has been one of the most challenging tasks I’ve ever worked on; geologically it’s a combination of salt tectonics, rift tectonics and even oceanic rifting in its early stages. And as a Geologist we spend a healthy amount of time in the field, for the red sea I have to develop other skills like pore pressure prediction and geo-hazard assessment amongst other deep water operation skills. Recently I have become a certified diver and along the red sea coast gives you an endless opportunity to see almost an infinite number of marine life. It is absolutely spectacular to go diving there. You have the opportunity not only to work on conventional data, not only to work in the red sea which is a frontier area, you also have the opportunity to work in unconventional and develop that. I believe that working here in Saudi Aramco is a very unique experience.
